Here at Blankets and Weaves we are so delighted to stock the Hinterveld 2016 range. Included in this range are the beautiful Baby Alpaca blankets. Made of a luxurious and exotic blend of 62% Baby Alpaca; 19% Wool; 10% Silk; 9% Nylon, these blankets are soft and gorgeous.
But many people aren't really sure what an alpaca is! You can see from the picture above that alpaca's aren't quite sheep or goats....they look more like Llama's. And you would be right. They are close relatives of the Llama and Camel. Unlike Llama's though, the alpaca is a domesticated creature that is bred specifically for their wool fibres - and have been for 1000's of years! Found most often in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile, the alpaca's thrive at high altitudes...and yes.... these are the creatures often known for spitting!
The fleece of the alpaca is harvested as a natural fibre and is soft, durable, luxurious and very silky. And you can imagine how much softer and silker, the baby alpaca fleece is! Alpaca blankets are also warmer than normal sheep's wool and are hypoallergenic.
Alpaca fibre has become more and more fashionable in the last few years and is often thought as the closest rival to the famed cashmere due to its luxurious feel.
Hinterveld, a very proudly South African blanket manufacturer have introduced this very special baby alpaca blend blanket in a variety of soft greys, reds, browns and blues.
